The Rob Roy district asked Sean several times to be the lead agency on the project, but he replied

that he had to think about the entire Village not just one subdivision and that he wouldn’t commit any funding.

Why doesn't the village believe that they let Mallard Point get this way without making sure the drainage pond was built to code AND without making sure that who ever ended up owning the pond would by law, maintain that pond?

It has nothing to do with the rest of the village. The village let the drainage issue slip thru the cracks and now they have a responsibility to pay the cost to have it done right. Just like they should have from the start.

Instead, the village is just gonna let Mallard Point residents sink? Let the other 90% of Sugar Grove resent Mallard Point residents and send hate comments to this blog because they feel we need to "man up" and fix this problems ourselves? It's our tough luck. Buyer Beware (despite the fact that we had home inspectors come out and the village itself approved these houses and approved basements)?

I am so tired of the same old same old. Great neighbors, great schools, but a village board that just keeps giving us the bum's rush.

Comments:
I am not really sure which entry to leave this comment, so I am going under this one! I wanted to encourage some of the residents in Mallard Point to check out this rainwater harvesting system that has been developed by Aquascape Design in St. Charles. It captures the rain from your gutters etc in an underground container system. It is then available for you to use to water plants etc. you can have a decorative feature like a fountain too. Aquascape is planning a huge undertaking in the Lakes of Bliss Woods subdivision this summer..they are hoping to get numerous residents to install these systems as well as purchasing rain barrels. Ed and Ellen Beaulieu from aquascape, live in lakes of bliss woods. They are truly into the conservation issues of saving water, diverting it from becoming just run-off and having to manage it with detention basins. This might be something that Mallard Point residents are interested in. I would encourage you to check it out by emailing ellen@aquascapeinc.com They are also offering their special rain barrels at a discount as part of the Extreme Green Community Makeover Event. I personally am checking into the systems to use at my home and I have some real water issues, so I really encourage you to check it out as well. their website is www.aquascapedesigns.com/chicago

I left a comment on this item on sunday, but don't see it! I wanted to let the Mallard Point residents know of an option that might help divert excess storm water from making its way to the pond. The Aquascape company, from St. Charles, has a great rainwater harvesting system. It is underground and can be of different sizes. It captures the water, filters it,and stores it. you can use it to water your plants etc. and also to have a decorative feature such as a fountain. They had a great presentation on sunday for their annual pondemonium event. They also are selling some really great rain barrels. the barrels hold 75 gallons of water. they are decorative. they are having a special sale and selling the barrels for only $120, instead of $200. you can email ellen@aquascapeinc.com for additional info. Since I am suffering my own water situation, I am seriously investigating this opportunity. thanks for your time,

Mari,
Thank you for the constructive suggestion. We can all individually take small steps to help resolve our current drainage problem. This also is a small step towards addressing larger global problems which is an admirable goal.

I am assuming that this suggestion is only thinly related to the drainage challenges in Mallard Point. Would you agree that even if every homeowner in Mallard Point invested in rain barrels and collection systems, there would still be a significant amount of run off from the city streets and open areas. While the suggestion is great as an eco-friendly option, let's not let it distract from the larger problem or be mistaken as a larger solution.

Mari

First of all, sorry for the delay in publishing your comment.

Also I do hope you REALLY understand the problem here. It is not a matter of all MP residents making sure they have working sump pumps. Unfortunately I think that is a huge misconception that 90% of Sugar Grove has.

The problem is;
1. The drainage pond is flawed. In a big way. (Happily the village is currently helping a lot with this by cleaning it up. However, that really is only a "bandaid.")

2. Mallard Point was allowed to build and build houses with basements. (All approved by the village.)

3. Mallard Point was never "forced" to create an HOA. (And yes, the village COULD have stopped the first house and every house thereafter from being built unless this provision for an HOA was set in stone. And even with the multiple builders being involved, I am sure the village could have and should have stepped in. I am sure the village needed to approve each and every house that was built. It is too late now cuz NO WAY would an HOA ever be approved. I am an huge underdog in that I would be happy to have an HOA.)

4. (This one baffles me the most). The village is not making the owner of this drainage pond responsible for its maintenance. There really should have been a stipulation that the owner HAS to BY LAW maintain it. Why that is not an automatic thing, I don't "get."

5. Why didn't the village, from the start of Mallard Point, before even one house was built, make the builders connect the drainage tiles to the Rob Roy Creek? That seems like the biggest thing of all. (Then the pond is not nearly the issue that it is.) They should not have allowed one stinkin' house to be built before they had all these MAJOR wrinkles ironed out.

What I simply do not get is why the village does not just do what it takes to right the wrong. Get the tiles hooked up to Rob Roy and then move on. Instead, we have a very unhappy sector of Sugar Grove. I can show you some very nasty comments that I never published. Makes me ill really. Makes me want to move far away from this beautiful little town. The residents moved in here (Mallard Point) assuming this subdivision was like any other. What should the residents have done in the first place??? (besides not move to Mallard Point.)

just wanted to let you know that Aquascape is on our village board agenda this coming tuesday, may 5. they are supposed to give an overview of their pondemonium plans. Just wanted to let you know.

My 2 cents. For a village that takes forever on every development imaginable, how did this all happen? To be fair I am sure most appointed officials now were not then at the time of the construction on the neighborhood.

Nonetheless, the village should prioritize this over silly stuff like open area & the color & texture of buildings.

To make things worse, this has been a bad rain year. Good luck and hope things work out for all parties
