Melting Snow

Anyone nervous??? I know we are. But so far, so good! The true test will be the next two days I think. Anyone having any problems yet?

Comments:
Because a third party owns the retention basin area, shouldn't he/she be responsible for the $8K fee? Also, have you requested of the Village to see all of the documents they have on file for your subdivision?

it too seems to me that mayor [ ] has come to the forgone conclusion that he and the board are going to impose this "ssa" against our willperhaps we should lawyer up and see where that takes us, it has to be better than just sitting here and watching them get their cost estimates, at the end of which they will tell us, "we did not budget for this, therefore here is your bill." i question why trotter was hired. it seems to me the village is in bed with EEI, and for them to go elsewhere has me thinking EEI may be reponsible in someway for some of our problems, as the village is distancing themselves from EEI so they can point the finger at them when and if the time comes to assign blame for their collective past failures

To the Honorable Mayor Michels, Ms. Taylor and Ms Heineman:

My name is Bob. I come from a hard working (somewhat struggling at the moment) blue collar family. We moved into Mallard Point about 10 years ago. My wife and I are in a similar situation as about 95 % of our neighbors in that we bought our home in Mallard Point on good faith with the idea that the land was a reclaimed farmer’s field that had previously been growing corn or beans. The vast majority of us had no knowledge that the Village had approved some land, filled with springs and whatnot to be used as a subdivision.

As I understand it you are all parents, like us you are probably striving to give your kids a better life than you had growing up.

Well this SSA that you are all favoring is just going to hurt all of worse than we are all ready hurting. As I mentioned, we have been here for ten years. During this time our taxes have climbed and climbed. Mine happen to be the highest of my family (8 siblings all living in the western suburbs in similar homes; as a result I am the laughing stock of the family). The taxes will continue to climb as I understand it, until you all bring some business to the area to help reduce the taxes of home owners. We have been waiting and waiting to see you come up with some kind of help for all of us. However, it is just not happening, nor do we hold out much hope.

Now you see this SSA is just another tax you are piling on top of us. None of us want it, none of us can afford it. The value of all of our homes have plummeted with this “pond” news, and promise of an SSA. We do not see any way this will change. For years to come, any and every real estate agent will be devaluing any home in this neighborhood due to water issues. For years to come, when people Google “Mallard Point”, they will find articles about water issues, the Village turning a blind eye and not helping it’s tax payers right a wrong they are a party to. None of us will recoup the value we have invested in our homes.

The sad part is, the week after you slap the SSA on us, for sale signs will go up in every other yard. All of us forced to sell at a loss to avoid paying this unwanted extra tax burden. If you had not treated this subdivision as the bastard child of Sugar Grove since its inception, things might be different.

It is not too late for you all to reconsider. If this were Strafford Woods or Windsor Pointe, you all would be bending over backwards to help the residence. Now all we see is blank stares, and deferrals to your lawyer.

Sugar Grove was supposed to be the place we could all give our children a better life. It is just turning out to be a place they get there first bitter life lessons.

[I would not like to read your anonymous comments about how great a HOA or SSA would be for all of us.] We are not stupid, just frustrated that you can’t come off you high horses and put yourselves in our shoes.

Robert O'Brien

I recently read that someone on the board, or maybe it was the mayor, wanted to bring lower afordable housing to the village.Perhaps they/he thinks this is the solution.
